Horseplay leads to killing in west Charlotte
Police are investigating a west Charlotte shooting Tuesday night that left one person dead.
The incident took place on the front porch of a home in the 2100 block of Rozzelles Ferry Road. The victim was identified as Cleamard Chisholm, 58.
According to police reports, a resident in the 2100 block of Roslyn Avenue called 911 around 9:35 p.m. to report that a man, apparently shot, had walked into the caller’s yard and collapsed.
When police arrived, they found Chisholm shot in the upper leg. He died at Carolinas Medical Center less than an hour later.
Based on initial witness reports to police, Chisholm was last seen “horse playing” with a suspect at the Rozzelles Ferry home. The situation escalated, witnesses told police, and the suspect left the porch and returned a short time later with a gun. He then shot Chisholm then fled in a white pickup truck.
Chisholm ran from the scene to the home on Roslyn Avenue and collapsed in the front yard.
Police early Wednesday had not released the name of a suspect.
Chisholm’s death was the city’s 30th homicide reported in 2010, up from 15 this time last year, which had one of the lowest homicide counts on recent records.
