The Charlotte Housing Authority (CHA) has received $250,000 in energy stimulus funding to help renovate Parktowne Terrace on Fairview Road in SouthPark.

The money is part of a $6.5million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to the City of Charlotte.

“Through the Parktowne green renovation, we are creating economic opportunity, developing energy efficient building that will operate more efficiently, and being environmentally conscious,” CHA spokeswoman Jennifer Gallman said in a statement Monday.

Parktowne Terrace is a six-story, mid-rise community built in 1978. It will undergo a total energy efficiency retrofit of its 163 units.

The $15.8 million renovation and expansion will include new Energy Star appliances and HVAC systems.
