I'm ready for some football
As a Carolina Panthers die hard fan, I’m ready for some football and I’m excited about
the upcoming season.
This is the only time of year when I can sit in the barbershop and combat all of the irrational and unrealistic Dallas Cowboy fans who truly believe that this is indeed their year. I can tell my next door neighbor that, at this very moment, the Carolina Panthers have one of the best records in the league and has as good a chance as any team to not only make the playoffs but to win the Super Bowl in his beloved Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
The obvious withstanding, it is now time for real fans to accentuate the positive:
- No, the offense did not score a single touchdown in preseason, but the preseason was played without our best offensive weapons -- running back Jonathan Stewart and wide receiver Steve Smith. The Panthers are a run-first and nearly a run-only team, but in preseason the offense ran the ball only 38 percent of the time. This shows that Coach Fox was merely saving his best for when it really counts.
- Yes, the defensive line is without key players from the previous year, but the defense is younger, more athletic and gives 100 percent effort on every down by every player. This effort far exceeds that of the million-dollar defensive player from last year who, though he received full-time pay, gave only a part-time effort. This year we will have a collective all-star defense in conjunction with any individual Pro-Bowl player.
- Yes, Jake Delhomme is gone and a relatively rookie quarterback will be starting behind center. Jake Delhomme is gone!!! Enough Said.
Remember, a defensive-minded team that runs first on offense can win a championship, ala the 2000 Baltimore Ravens and the ’86 Chicago Bears.
I’m ready for some football and ready for the 2010 Carolina Panthers to make their Super Bowl Run.
