JCSU adds a new assistant coach
Qcity native Andre’ Green has joined the Johnson C. Smith women’s basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2010-11 season.
Green previously served as director of university relations for the Charlotte Basketball Association and as head coach of the Charlotte Lady Stars Elite 16U basketball team.
He also was a member of the coaching staff at West Charlotte High School from 2007-09 – a team that won a state championship in 2009. Green also was head coach from 2002-05 at James Martin Middle School, leading his players to a perfect 24-0 season.
“The most important goal here at JCSU is to help these young ladies to be successful on and off the court,” he said in a statement. “My expectations are to win the CIAA championship as well as a regional championship.”
JCSU head women’s basketball coach Vanessa Taylor said she was pleaded to add Green to her staff.
“He brings a great deal of knowledge and understanding for the game, he relates well with the student-athletes as a coach, and I feel he will be instrumental in assisting with our recruiting efforts in the future,” she said.
The Lady Golden Bulls return seven players from last year’s squad that finished 18-10 overall and 11-9 in the conference, just behind divisional winner St. Augustine’s and eventual CIAA Champion Fayetteville State.
