JCSU students earn All-Academic honors
Eight Johnson C. Smith University students – five women and three men -- were named to the 2010 Division II All-Academic Track & Field Teams.
To qualify, a student athlete must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Of the 67 schools represented on the women’s side, the JCSU squad was ranked third among Division II schools with a cumulative GPA of 3.56.
The female honorees are: graduate Nikki Boston (Vidalia, GA), junior Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica), junior Monique Kelly (St. Andrew, Jamaica), sophomore Xahnn-Georgia Reid (Clarendon, Jamaica), and senior Shermaine Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica).
“This is a great distinction for our program, said Lennox Graham, JCSU’s head track & field coach. “These young ladies have worked very diligently in the classroom and this is just as important as All-American status.”
On the men’s side, JCSU, with a cumulative GPA of 3.52, ranked second among 34 schools.
The JCSU men who received All-Academic honors are: junior Andre Collins (Kingston, Jamaica), senior Leford Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica), and junior Richard Harkness (Moncks Corner, SC).
The All-Academic teams are announced each year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
“Our program truly values academics, so to be recognized by the association as one of the elite academic track and field clubs is an honor,” Graham said.
