Kings Mountain native named to post at SC State
John D. Jones, a resident and native of Kings Mountain, has been named associate vice
president for academic affairs at SC State University.
His job will include managing academic processes such as tenure and promotion, accreditation preparation, faculty recruitment, and annual assessment performance plans. He will also help with the curriculum and application of new technologies to the teaching/learning process.
Jones graduated magna cum laude from Johnson C. Smith University in 1983. After working with the Mecklenburg Department of Social Services, he earned master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in education research and evaluation and higher education leadership, respectively
Jones has worked at four historically black colleges and universities, most recently as associate provost and accreditation liaison for Bennett College for Women in Greensboro.
He is married to the former Beverly Ann Oates of Kings Mountain.
