Larry Brown is out as Bobcats coach; Paul Silas is in
Larry Brown resigned today as head coach of the 9-19 Charlotte Bobcats. Ah hour later,
former Charlotte Hornets coach Paul Silas was named interim head coach.
Although the team’s press statement said Brown left voluntarily, clearly team owner Michael Jordan prompted the move. It seems that Jordan has adopted a management philosophy of execute or be executed.
The Bobcats have failed to execute all year, which led to Brown’s tenure as coach being executed.
Brown’s termination…sorry, his resignation…comes as no surprise. With four embarrassing blowouts in six games, the Bobcats have hit rock bottom. Two of those games came against bottom-tier teams (Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards).
Is removing a legendary coach the answer?
Probably not, but Jordan had no choice. He couldn’t very well fire an entire 12-man roster, and he had to send a clear signal that the team’s play was unacceptable.
I’m sorry to see Brown go, but change was inevitable. He no longer seemed to motivate the team, and he appeared hopelessly frustrated.
I hope Jordan continues with his efforts and trades players who don’t give 100 percent. It’s time that the Bobcats put a better product on the court.
Charlotte fans have suffered through an entire season with the underachieving Panthers; let’s hope the same will not be true of the Bobcats.
Good luck, Mr. Brown. I wish you well
