Library task force seeks volunteers
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Mecklenburg County are seeking volunteers to serve on a library task force.
The group, made up of 12-15 members, will develop and propose ideas to ensure a vibrant future for the county’s public library system.
The county's libraries have faced deep budget cuts this year, leading to branch closures, reduced hours and layoffs. The Future of the Library Task Force was first proposed during the spring budget cycle, when stakeholders began discussing the need to create a stable funding platform for the Library.
Task Force members must be residents of Mecklenburg County and meet requirements outlined in the application form. Volunteers should expect to spend at least five hours per week working on the task force, according to the application.
People with experience in relevant fields, such as finance, human resources, legal services, market research, public relations or municipal administration are sought.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on September 22, with the first meeting slated for October 20. Copies of the application, as well as an overview of the Task Force, and instructions for applying, are available on the library and county websites -- www.cmlibrary.org and www.mecklenburgcountync.gov. Printed copies are available at each branch library.
