A man wanted in Mecklenburg County on a murder warrant has been arrested in New York  in a different murder case.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were looking for James Edward Currie, 25, who was suspected in the Aug. 7 killing of Brooks Dangelo Crist, who was shot in a common area at the Lake Point Apartments in the 6000 block of Lake Forest Road in the Hickory Grove Division.

On Sept. 3, CMPD obtained a murder warrant for Currie, who they learned had gone to New York. Police said they worked with a New York FBI task force to track Currie’s movements.

On Saturday, CMPD was notified by Nassau County (NY) police that Currie had been arrested on the North Carolina warrant, but that he also was a suspect in New York on an unrelated murder that also happened Saturday.

CMPD was notified Monday that Currie had been charged in the New York killing.

Mecklenburg Sheriff’s records show that Currie (pictured above) was arrested in January and charged with using profane language. He was released the same day.
