'The power of education'
Season three of "GoodWorks with Rahman Khan" debuts Sunday on Charlotte's PBS affiliate, WTVI.
Khan kicks off the new season by going one-on-one with author and Princeton University
professor Cornel West, who talks about his rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of the nation's renowned scholars.
West credits "love" and the "power of education" with changing him from a former "bully" and "gangster" to high school senior class president and later Harvard University graduate.
"I had a rage inside of me that could not find a positive channel," West tells Khan, "like a lot of young brothers and sisters today."
"GoodWorks" is a weekly show that focuses on highlighting the good in all us, whether it's a corporation, celebrities or everyday people making positive changes in the community.
In week one Khan also interviews Chanell Ketchmore, founder of "Ketchmore Kids," an organization that believes hip-hop can serve a useful purpose in helping children build self esteem and set goals.
Ketchmore says she wants to break down barriers and the negative stereotypes associated with youth and rap music.
"There is a dialogue taking place that is influenced by the hip-hop culture," her Web site says. "Once this is channeled in the right direction, it will help lead our youth to the greatness they are destined for."
The show airs Sunday at 12 p.m.
