Male struck, killed by Amtrak train
A male walking along railroad tracks in the 9900 block of Old Concord Road was struck and killed Friday by an Amtrak train traveling from Raleigh to Charlotte.
The victim was not immediately identified pending notification of relatives.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. Police said the victim was walking with his back to the approaching train. Earphones and an MP3 player were located near the scene of the crash.
None of the 49 people aboard the train was reported injured.
The incident was the third local fatality in less than a month involving a train-pedestrian collision.
In December, Ervin Patterson, 55, was killed by a CSX cargo train near Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte. Two days earlier, 28-year-old Kennard Edward Little of Charlotte was listening to music on headphones when he was struck by an Amtrak train.
