Man dies in early morning car crash
Police say Charlotte’s first snowfall of the season may have contributed to a fatal car crash early Saturday on Nations Ford Road.
Bulmaro Zalazar, 27, was killed around 3:45 a.m. when the Ford pickup he was driving crossed the center line, ran off the road and struck a tree head-on. The truck came to rest on the opposite side of the road.
Zalazar was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Two passengers in the truck -- Jorge Miranda Solis, 24, and Silvia Diaz, 35 -- were taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the road where the accident occurred, in the 5600 block of Nations Ford toward Tyvola Road, was icy at the time of the collision. A CMPD accident reconstruction unit is investigating to determine whether other factors were involved.
With Charlotte-area roads caked with a light mixture of sleet and snow, authorities are advising the public to avoid roadways unless driving is essential.
