17 year old killed in SW Charlotte
Story Update: Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have identified the victim of a Saturday night shooting as 17-year-old John Darrell Kempson Jr.
Kempson died at Carolinas Medical Center after he was shot late Saturday in the 100 block of Long Pine Lane in southwest Charlotte.
Charged with murder in the case was Armani Compton McDonald, 19. Police said McDonald was arrested based on witness statements to investigating detectives.
During those interviews, police said, a second suspect, 18-year-old Terry Sekyere, was identified as having assaulted Kempson. He was charged with assault.
Both McDonald and Sekyere were being held at the Mecklenburg jail.

Police are investigating a Saturday night shooting in southwest Charlotte that left a man dead.
Authorities did not immediately release the victim’s name.
The shooting, which happened in the 100 block of Long Pine Lane, was reported to police at 11:45 p.m. It was the first of two killings that night.

When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
Police did not release information relating to a possible suspect but said the shooting may have followed an altercation.
