Ervin Patterson, a 55-year-old black male, was killed by a CSX cargo train Saturday near Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte.

His death was the second in two days involving a train.

According to police, Patterson was sitting on railroad tracks near the 100 block of Crestway Circle around 6:46 p.m. The train, carrying two passengers, was en route from Monroe to Forest City with 54 cargo cars and two engines.

On Thursday, Kennard Little, a 28-year-old black male, was killed by an Amtrak Train traveling from Raleigh to Charlotte carrying 52 passengers. Police said Little may have been listening to music through headphones and didn’t hear the train approaching.

The collision occurred just before 3 p.m. near the 7600 block of Old Concord Road in northeast Charlotte.
