Did you know that on this day in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment was passed, making black people citizens? The amendment contains the Equal Protection Clause, which was the basis for the Brown v. Board of Education case and requires each state to provide equal protection under the law to all people in its jurisdiction. The amendment also includes the Due Process clause which prohibits state and local governments from depriving persons of life, liberty or property without certain steps being taken to ensure fairness. As much as Bishop Eddie Long may want to put his sexual misconduct case behind him, the drama continues to ensue. It appears that there was another man involved in the case, who alleges that he too had a sexual relationship with Long. Meet 22-year-old Centino Kemp:

Popular BET Show Canceled

After two years of being on the air, BET is saying goodbye to The Mo’Nique Show, at least for now. According to a BET spokesperson, "The Mo'Nique Show will be on production hiatus beginning in the fall." A “production hiatus” is often a euphemism for cancellation. In an interview, stand-up comedian Rodney Perry who appeared on the show says he heard the news from Mo’Nique’s husband, but hasn’t yet spoken with the Mo’Nique herself. “We did some good work,” Perry said. “And I think the show is significant. There hasn’t been an outlet for people of color late night since Arsenio.” (Read more here)

SCLC President dies

The president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Rev. Howard Creecy Jr., died early this morning of a heart attack in Atlanta. The SCLC was founded by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., in 1957. King’s daughter Bernice King declined the position of SCLC president earlier this year. Creecy, 57, was elected SCLC president and took the helm in January, after serving as the interim president. His mission, he said, was to help define the civil rights organization’s direction for the 21st century. (Read more here)
