Michelle Obama brings fitness message to S.C Army base
In a visit to South Carolina Thursday, First Lady Michelle Obama called on parents, schools, workplaces and the military to combat America’s obesity epidemic.
Speaking to soldiers at the massive U.S. Army training facility at Fort Jackson in Columbia, Obama continued her push for exercise and healthier eating habits, especially among children.
"You can’t get at this problem with just one slice of it," she was quoted as saying. "You have to get the whole country behind this because it’s affecting our ability to protect our freedom."
As America’s waistline has grown, the military has had trouble finding recruits fit enough to serve.
