Mixed raced people better than blacks?

As some black folks continue to be caught up in the whole dark skin vs. light skin, Willie Lynch-type mentality, it seems that the greater American society has it’s own social hierarchy, and all black folks -- both light and dark -- are at the bottom. First comes the white people, then the mix-raced people, and black folks are last, according to a study conducted by a professor from Johns Hopkins University.

A healthy lesson in Black Panther history

The Black Panther Party was all about fighting for the rights of black people, including their right to quality healthcare. In addition to toting guns and wearing lots of leather, BPP also provided free healthcare services for the community. Author Alondra Nelson documents BPP’s multifaceted health activism in her new book titled. “Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination.” Nelson says the Panthers’ legacy can provide inspiration and important strategic lessons for today’s new generation of political activist. Group takes on practice of barring black men from projects 

In practically every city across the nation, there are a number of black men who have been barred from entering public housing complexes. In fact, former Charlotte Housing Authority commissioner Lucille Puckett was evicted from her apartment and kicked off the board for meeting with a man who had been banned from CHA property. Johnny Barnes, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union's chapter in D.C. is fighting back. Barnes, along with a group of activists and attorneys, says the practice of stopping black men from entering public housing projects in his district is illegal and without just cause. (Read more)

Decline of marriage linked to divorce

According to a recent study, divorce not only ends marriages, it prevents it. A survey of 61 cohabitating couples aged 18 to 26 found that 67 percent of the respondents had decided to live together instead of tying the knot because they had a fear of divorce. Many of the couples felt the potential social, emotional and economic fallout of splitting up was not worth the risk. The study, which was published in December’s Journal of Family Relations, also found that women were more likely than the men to view marriage as a trap. (Read more)

NFL players sue the league for brain damage

Four former players in the National Football League claiming they are now suffering from brain damage as a result of years and the league and are suing the NFL. The lawsuit filed by Dorsey Levens, Jamal Lewis, Fulton Kuykendall and Ryan Stewart alleges that the league failed to warn players of the possibility of brain damage, even though it had knowledge of psychological issues back in the 1920’s. Donald Trump still in good with the blacks

Would more black people cast votes for Donald Trump than for President Barack Obama? Trump seems to think so. He told Greta Van Sustern on Fox News that he could win the presidential election because he is popular among Hispanics and African Americans. Uh, yeah, ok. (Read more)
