Money and workshops available for local nonprofits
Do you work for a Charlotte-area nonprofit and want to get better at using social media to promote your organization?
The Charlotte chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) will host a free, half-day workshop that might help.
The workshop – “Profitable Communications for Nonprofits” -- will give communicators in the nonprofit field information and insights on how to use social media to tell their organization’s story and respond to crises, and how nonprofits can improve the way they convey their brand through a variety of communications channels.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, at the Levine Museum of the New South in uptown Charlotte.

The Mecklenburg ABC Board is accepting grant applications from nonprofits that provide substance abuse services to county residents.
North Carolina law mandates that 7 percent of profits generated from the sale of distilled spirits and collected by local ABC Boards be spent on substance abuse prevention, education, treatment, or research.
Applications are being accepted for funding up to $30,000. The deadline to apply is April 29, 2011.
The application and program guidelines can be downloaded from the Board’s website (www.meckabc.com). Awards will be announced in June.
A free workshop for interested organizations will be held on Monday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at 3333 North Tryon Street. For more information about the workshop, contact Mary Ward at 704-731-5866 or mward@meckabc.com.
