Monifa Drayton has been named director of CMC-Huntersville, a Carolinas HealthCare System facility that will add a 24-hour emergency department this spring.

Before starting her new position, Drayton was responsible for opening and managing the LiveWELL Carolinas! wellness center at Northlake Mall, where she managed volunteers, health fairs and various programs. She has worked at Carolinas HealthCare for 11 years.

In her new role, Drayton will oversee daily operations of the Huntersville complex and develop community connections in the north Mecklenburg and Lake Norman area.

CMC-Huntersville (16455 Statesville Road) is a facility of Carolinas Medical Center-University. It will provide emergency treatment for patients suffering from heart attacks, strokes and other serious injuries and illnesses. Patients who need to be admitted may be transported to other hospitals.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Drayton received a master's degree in public administration from the UNC Charlotte. She also earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from South Carolina State University.

She serves on several boards, including the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce (University City Chapter), the Diversity Advisory Council of Charlotte, and the Charlotte Crossroads Initiative.
