Police arrested 17-year-old Tre Cortez Barber Thursday and charged him with killing an 18-year-old woman in a parking lot at Forest Ridge Apartments on Winged Elm Court off Albemarle Road.

Barber was apprehended shortly before 4 p.m. after police attempted to stop a car in which he was riding with a female driver. The car crashed, and Barber and the driver were treated at Carolinas Medical Center-University City before he was booked into the Mecklenburg jail.

He was charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police say Barber shot Chaufa Ande Johnson once in the abdomen Wednesday and robbed her as she lay dying. Police said the two knew one another.
