Murder-suicide in N. Charlotte
Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened early Sunday inside a north Charlotte home where eight other people – including six children – were present.
The victim was identified as Rebecca Ann Robertson, 31. The suspect was identified as Barry Lynndell Leake, 39. Police said the couple had a history of domestic violence.
The incident happened in the 2429 block of Anna Garrison Road, slightly northwest of where W. Sugar Creek Road meets N. Tryon Street.
Police were called to the home just after 1 a.m. in reference to a double shooting. When they arrived they found Robertson and Leake dead.
Police believe Leake killed Robertson then shot himself.
Robertson’s sister and another man, along with the six children, were inside the home when the shooting happened.
Police said Robertson was mother to three of the children; the remaining three belonged to her sister.
Police did not state the nature of the relationship between Robertson and Leake, or whether he was the father of any of her children.
Child Development through Community Policing (CDCP) was called to home early Sunday, along with the Mobile Crisis Unit, to assist.
Police had been called to the house previously because of a domestic violence report. Officers at the time found no signs of injury and made no arrest, according to police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington.
Officers later followed up on the earlier call, Harrington said, and were told by Robertson that she had decided not to seek a warrant and had moved out of the home.
