In preparation for an upcoming exhibit that deals with the nature of race, Discovery Place will host a special edition of “Charlotte Talks” with WFAE’s Mike Collins.

The exhibit -- RACE: Are We So Different? -- will run Feb. 5 through May 8.

On Thursday, February 10, Discovery Place will host a conversation about the science and history of race and racism. Collins will be joined by John Mackay, president and CEO of Discovery Place, and professor Jonathan Marks of UNC Charlotte’s Department of Anthropology.

The episode will be recorded live and will air Friday morning on 90.7 WFAE.

Beginning Monday, February 7, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will adjust Route 26 - Oaklawn to extend down Seaboard Street within reach of the N.C. Music Factory.

"As more businesses continue to open in and around the NC Music Factory, workers and citizens heading there for dining and entertainment now have a convenient option to get to Seaboard Street," Larry Kopf, chief operations planning officer, said in a statement.

Other upcoming route changes include:

19 Park Road: Weekday service will be adjusted to operate every 40 minutes to SouthPark and Quail Corners/Sharon Road during the day, and approximately hourly at night. Weekday service between Uptown and Fairview Road will operate every 20 minutes throughout the day and 30 minutes at night.

21 Double Oaks: The last trip on Sunday will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 7:30 p.m. Alternative services are available on Route 26 Oaklawn and Route 13 Nevin Road, which will provide later service along Statesville and along Oaklawn.

41X Steele Creek Express: Will be extended to the Steelecroft development near York Road and Steelecreek Road and will no longer enter into Rivergate Shopping Center. Beginning February 7, 2011, on-street public parking on Steelecroft Parkway will be available for CATS customers.

56 Arrowood: Will be adjusted to operate through Rivergate Shopping Center to the Carolinas Medical Center facility near York Road and Steelecreek Road. Mid-day trips that currently operate via Commercial, Granite and General Drives, will instead be extended to Rivergate Shopping Center. Rush hour trips will continue to operate via Commercial, Granite and General Drives.

60 Tyvola/SouthPark: The last weekday eastbound trip on Route 60 Tyvola/SouthPark will be adjusted to make better connections to the LYNX Blue Line. This trip will depart from the Brooksvale/West Blvd location at 10:08 p.m., which is ten minutes later than the current schedule. It will arrive at the LYNX Blue Line Tyvola Station at 10:24 p.m.

501 LYNX Blue Line: The last LYNX Blue Line trip southbound on Sunday, currently departing from the 7th Street Station at 12 a.m., will be extended to the I-485 Station.
