Next week's JCSU game moving to Memorial Stadium
Next weekend’s game between Johnson C. Smith University and Winston-Salem State University is moving to Charlotte’s Memorial Stadium.
The game is being moved from JCSU’s Irwin Belk Complex to accommodate what is expected to be a large crowd. Memorial Stadium, on Seventh Street in the Elizabeth community, can hold 21,000 people; the JCSU stadium seats 4,500.
“We just wanted to take safety precautions and be proactive, with a big rivalry game between these two institutions, and the success that Winston has had this season; it made economical sense to move the game to Memorial,” JCSU Athletic Director Stephen Joyner Sr. said.
The shift to Memorial Stadium is not an unfamiliar move for JCSU fans. The school has played its homecoming games there in the past.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Golden Bulls will enter the game with a 1-3 record, while the Winston-Salem State Rams are undefeated going into this weekend’s matchup with Fayetteville State University. JSCU has this weekend off.
New venue ticket prices: General admission, $15.00; Youth (ages 6-17), senior citizens, active-duty military, JCSU employees, and visiting student (all with proper identification) will pay $10. JCSU student and children (ages 5 & under) are free. Parking: $5.00.
