Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died today in Greenwood, S.C., the Greenville News has reported.

Adams, 26, died Sunday morning after he was taken to a Greenwood medical center, the paper reported on its Web site.

Adams was the fourth player chosen in the 2007 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was traded from Tampa Bay to the Chicago Bears in October.

An autopsy will be performed today, the Greenville News reported.

Adams’ death comes less than a month after Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry died in Charlotte after leaving the back of a pickup truck during a domestic confrontation with his fiance. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police ruled his death an accident.
