No charges will be filed in east Charlotte stabbing death
Authorities will not press charges against a woman who stabbed to death a 35-year-old man earlier this month off Albemarle Road in East Charlotte.
The Mecklenburg district attorney has ruled the incident a case of self-defense, or justifiable homicide, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Thursday morning.
The dead man was identified as Ricky Lee Self.
The killing occurred in the early hours of May 5 inside a unit at the Camden Forest Apartment complex.
Police were already at the location that night conducting an unrelated investigation when they heard a woman screaming inside a nearby unit. The officers kicked down the door and found a male suffering from multiple stab wounds, as well as a female who also had cuts to her body.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The female, who was not identified, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and treated for injuries.
