Polite pat, or something else?
Former President George W. Bush has been captured on camera making a questionable gesture after shaking hands with earthquake survivors in Haiti.
He appears to wipe his hand on Bill Clinton's shirt in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The video has gone viral, but questions about the gesture – whether it was an insult, a wiping of perspiration or a jovial welcoming pat for Clinton – have been raised.
"The video clip above appears to have been selectively slowed at the point that Bush touches Clinton's shoulder, making his gesture seem worse than it was," writes Richard Adams, a blogger for The Guardian.
"Clinton is notoriously unpunctual and an enthusiastic glad-hander,” he continues, “whereas Bush is known for keeping to a tight schedule. So it's just as likely that Bush was encouraging Clinton to hurry up."
