Obama coming to the Qcity
President Barack Obama is coming to the Charlotte area next week Friday to talk about the economy.
The president’s visit will come just weeks after Mayor Anthony Foxx led a group of Charlotte-area business leaders to the White House to meet with key administration officials, including senior advisor Valerie Jarrett.
The mayor’s office said Friday that Foxx, while at the White House, left word that he hoped Obama would soon visit the Queen City.
“I’m very pleased to welcome the president to our great city,” Foxx was quoted as saying on CharlotteObserver.com. “I’m honored that the president would come to Charlotte, and particularly coming so close to our visit in Washington.”
The mayor’s office said it was not yet known where the president would appear or at what time. Details, an official said, were being handled by the White House.
Obama last visited Charlotte the day before his historic Nov. 4, 2008, election.
Despite the city’s 12.8 percent unemployment rate, Foxx in recent weeks has held out Charlotte as a city ripe for economic recovery, touting a recent string of new jobs moving to the city, including 738 scheduled for a new North American headquarters for Electrolux – the city’s largest headquarters announcement in 25 years.
