One dead in shooting outside north Charlotte restaurant
Police are investigating a Sunday morning altercation and shooting in north Charlotte that left one victim dead.
The incident happened in the parking lot of the Cookout Restaurant in the 1300 block of West Sugar Creek Road. The victim was identified as Devon Alister Clement, 20.
According to a police report, officers from the North Tryon Division responded to a call for service at 4:19 a.m. regarding a person shot outside the restaurant. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.
The victim died at Carolinas Medical Center-Main a short time later. Based on initial witness statements, the victim had been involved in an altercation with several people outside the restaurant.
