Overnight crash closes a section of Beatties Ford Road
The portion of Beatties Ford Road was closed for hours early Wednesday while workers replaced a power pole knocked down by an alleged drunk driver.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. not far from the gates of Johnson C. Smith University. As of 7 a.m., that portion of the street was still closed in both directions and police said Duke Power officials estimated they would need another hour before the block could re-opened.
According to police reports, the driver of the car fled after the wreck but was located by police a short distance away. Police say the man, whose name was not immediately released, faces DWI charges.
