Overnight crash leaves 1 dead, 1 injured
Update: Police on Wednesday identified the victim as 45-year-old David Gallon, a black male.

Police are investigating a single-car crash in south Charlotte that left the driver dead and a passenger seriously injured.
The victims were not immediately identified.
According to police, witnesses reported seeing a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo speeding in the 3200 block of Providence Road at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The car failed to negotiate a slight curve, crossed a grass median and two inbound lanes then struck a large tree.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Providence and Sharon Amity Road.
The driver died at the scene. A front-seat passenger was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.
