Police today (Sunday) are investigating a double shooting in east Charlotte that left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. near Albemarle Road and Winterhaven Drive, not far from W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Police offered few details of what might have occurred but said an officer in the area was answering a call for service and heard gunshots. While trying to locate the source, the officer came upon a vehicle in the middle of Albemarle Road.

Paramedics were called and one victim was pronounced dead. The second victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main.
