A pedestrian identified as a black female was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed Thursday evening along U.S. Highway 521, better known as the Lancaster Highway.

Authorities had not released the victim’s identity as of Monday morning.

According to an initial police report, the woman was attempting to cross near Ardrey Kell Road when she darted into the path of a northbound Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 38-year-old Gwendolyn Aldridge.

The victim, who died at the scene, carried no identification.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
