Pizza Hut employee kills 2 robbery suspects
A Pizza Hut employee shot and killed two robbery suspects at a restaurant on Independence Boulevard late Monday.
The names of the dead were not immediately released.
According to early police reports, two Pizza Hut employees were in the back of the store cleaning up for the night when three black males entered the business through the front door. The suspects attempted to rob the business by forcing the employees into the cooler when one employee began firing.
Two of the suspects were pronounced dead at the scene. A third fled. Two handguns were recovered from the dead men. No employees were reported injured.
The incident happened about 11:16 p.m. at a Pizza Hut in the 5200 block of Independence.
Police did not indicate whether charges would be filed against the shooter.
It was the second robbery attempt at a Charlotte fast-food restaurant in less than 24 hours.
Earlier on Monday, police charged three men with trying to rob a Wendy’s restaurant near the Metropolitan shopping area near uptown. Two of the robbers were caught by police after a brief car chase; a third turned himself in.
