Police: 12 year old stabbed clerk in cell phone store
Police today arrested a 12-year-old on suspicion that he stabbed a sales clerk in a cell phone store during an apparent robbery.
Because of the suspect’s age, his name was not released.
Police said the incident happened around 10:44 a.m. at a Boost Mobile store in the 4000 block of Rosehaven Drive, just off Central Avenue in east Charlotte.
The victim, whose name was not released, was stabbed in the neck, just behind her right ear, while showing the juvenile cell phones. She was taken to Carolinas medical center with serious injuries.
Based on information that the victim was able to give police, the suspect jumped the counter after stabbing the clerk and continued to threaten her with the knife. He fled the store with two stolen cell phones.
The injured clerk ran to the front of the store to alert a passerby that she had been assaulted and robbed. The passerby chased the suspect as he ran towards the Advenir Apartments, located nearby along Central Avenue.
Police arrested the juvenile inside an apartment there at 11:09 a.m. Two stolen phones were recovered.
The juvenile will face charges of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.
