Police arrest man in hit-and-run death
Police on Saturday charged Jonathan Keith Malloy with felony hit-and-run in connection with a Friday evening incident that left a pedestrian dead in north Charlotte.
As of late Saturday, authorities had not identified the victim.
The wreck happened at about 6:20 p.m. when the pedestrian was crossing North Tryon Street near Arrowhead Drive East. Witnesses told police that a silver Volvo slammed into the man and sped away. Police out a description of the car.
The pedestrian, who carried no identification, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Malloy, 43, was arrested after a woman called police to her house on Lakecrest Drive just after midnight. She told police the car belonged to her and that Malloy was driving it when the incident occurred.
Court records show Malloy has an arrest record stretching back to the early 1990s, according to the Charlotte Observer. In 2001, he was arrested for habitual impaired driving. He was convicted of driving while impaired in 2003 in that case, the paper reported.
In 2007, Malloy was convicted of another DWI. He was fined $220, sentenced to two years split probation and parole and ordered to attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week, the Observer reported.
