Police arrest two after break-in, car chase
Two men arrested Tuesday face numerous charges related to a residential break-in and police chase that began in the Ballantyne area.
According to police, a witness called just before 2 p.m. to report a residential break-in in the 5500 block of Ballantyne Commons Parkway. The caller also gave police a description of the suspects’ vehicle.
An officer spotted the vehicle on I-485 and attempted to stop it after it exited the interstate. A brief chase ensued.
Police said the fleeing suspects struck a car at the corner of Highway 51 and Carmel Road. (The driver of that car was uninjured.) They later T-boned a second car a short distance away. The driver of the second car was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
After the second crash, three suspects ran from the scene. Two were quickly caught. The third, who managed to elude police and K-9 units, was described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt.
Arrested were Dandre Lamar Morrison, 22, and Damal Digsby, 22. Both men have extensive arrest records in Mecklenburg County.
The two face a string of charges related to Tuesday's break-in and police chase, including residential breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, failure to heed a blue light and siren, careless driving, and hit and run property damage.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
