Police: Fatal crash involved DWI
One person was killed and another injured early Thursday in a three-vehicle wreck that closed inbound Brookshire Boulevard for several hours.
Killed in the accident was 24-year-old Maurice F. McDowell, who would celebrated his 25th birthday next month.
Demaris Goodson, 28, the driver of another car, was charged with DWI. Police said Goodson may face other charges as the investigation continues.
The wreck happened about 1 a.m. at the intersection of Brookshire and Hovis.
According to police reports, Goodson, who was traveling in-bound on Brookshire Boulevard and was driving a 2002 Honda Accord, rear-ended a 2005 Honda Accord driven by McDowell. The force of the collision pushed McDowell’s car into the path of a tractor-trailer.
McDowell was killed at the scene.
Goodson was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not seriously injured.
Police reopened Brookshire and Hovis around 7 a.m.
