Police arrested four people in connection with a nightclub fight that may have led to the shooting of a 3-year-old boy who lay asleep in his bed.

Kunivion Williams was shot in the left kneecap around 3 a.m. Wednesday as bullets sprayed the outside on his home on Squirrel Hill Road in Charlotte’s Hidden Valley community. Police said they believe the drive-by shooting was in retaliation for a fight that occurred earlier that night at Faces Night Club off Freedom Drive.

Police said the altercation involved the Hidden Valley Kings, a local gang that has long plagued the working-class community just off Sugar Creek Road, the Charlotte Observer reported Thursday.

Crime in the community dropped after police in 2007 rounded up 20 of the gang’s top leaders; they were eventually sent to prison on various charges. Now some in the community fear a resurgence of violence, the Observer said, citing police and residents.

Williams, the only person inside the house injured in the shooting, was in serious condition late Wednesday.

"Whoever did this needs to be locked away, because they're a danger to everybody," said Ellen Ratliff, Kunivion's grandmother, standing outside her bullet-riddled house. "I'm just nervous, hoping that it all ends soon."

Police late Wednesday had made no arrest in the shooting.

Arrested for the nightclub fight were:

Anthony D. Mackin, 20, charged with assault.
Warren L. Griffin, 22, charged with assault.
Cameron L. McVay, 22, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and assault
Quentin A. McVay, 24, charged with communicating threats.

All were booked in the Mecklenburg jail.
