Police are searching for a man they accuse of killing one man and injuring another over the weekend during a melee that occurred uptown during the Speed Street festival.

Investigators are asking the public for information to help them find 20-year-old Antonio Amos Thompkins. Tipsters are asked to contact the department's violent criminal apprehension team at 704-336-VCAT (8228).

Thompkins is accused of shooting Antwan Terrell Smith and Durante Kavon James. Smith died as a result of his injuries, and James, who was shot in the leg, is expected to live.

Thompkins is a black man, 5-foot-10 and 130 pounds. He's know to frequent the Grier Heights area, and police say Thompkins should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 704-334-1600 or online at http://www.charlottecrimestoppers.com/. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
