Police investigate hit-and-run fatality

The victim of Sunday morning's fatal hit-and run in the Dilworth area of south Charlotte was identified as 29-year-old Edward Hedrick III.

According to police, Hedrick was riding a bicycling with two friends just before 6 a.m. when he fell on Poindexter Drive near Lawndale Road. When his friends tried to get him out of the road, a vehicle came down Poindexter Drive toward South Blvd. Hedrick’s friends tried to flag down the car down, but it struck Hedrick without slowing.

Paramedics pronounced Hedrick dead at the scene.

The vehicle was described as an older-model, silver or light blue vehicle -- possibly Toyota Tercel or Corolla, 4-door.

Police are requesting the public’s help in solving a Sunday morning hit-and-run fatality.

The incident occurred on Poindexter Drive at Lawndale Road in the Dilworth area of south Charlotte. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

Police said the vehicle is thought to be a silver or light blue Toyota Tercel or Corolla – possibly 4-door. It was last seen on Poindexter going toward South Boulevard. Police believe the vehicle may have minor damage to its front end and undercarriage.
