Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday evening just off Beatties Ford Road in north Charlotte.

As of late Wednesday authorities had not positively identified the victim.

According to a police report, the shooting happened in the kitchen of a home in the 5800 block of Hornet Drive just before 5 p.m.

Witnesses told police the shooter ran from the house after the incident. Police detained a suspect but did not immediately release a name or suspected motive.
