Police late Wednesday were investigating a shooting in southeast Charlotte that left a female dead.

The victim was shot in the 6200 block of Winged Elm Court and died at Carolinas Medical Center. Her name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.

The shooting happened outside an apartment complex at 4:43 p.m. Witnesses told police the shooting followed an altercation in the parking lot
