Police late Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of Jeremiah Lamont Luke, who was charged with murder following the Tuesday morning shooting death of Mikal Lee Legrande.
Homicide detectives are requesting the public’s help in locating the 33-year-old Luke, who was arrested earlier this year and charged with trafficking in cocaine.
Responding to a call for service Tuesday at 12:05 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers found Legrande dead from an apparent gunshot wound at Steeplechase Apartments, in the Independence Division.
According to initial witness statements, Legrande and a friend visited the apartment complex to meet an unknown subject. The three allegedly met in the parking lot outside of 7228 Wallace Road and then a gunshot rang out. Witnesses said they came out to investigate and found Legrande lying in the parking lot.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Luke is asked to call 911 or the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at 704-336-VCAT (8228). Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
