Police make arrest in stabbing incident
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police early Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old man suspected
of stabbing a victim in the chest Tuesday during a carjacking in north Charlotte.
Eugene Stradford, who faces charges of attempted murder and armed robbery, was arrested without incident around 3 a.m., CMPD reported. His alleged victim, 54-year-old Robert Lee Scott, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, Scott had given Stradford a ride and was stabbed in the chest after he refused to give up his 2000 Dodge Ram van. After stabbing Scott, the suspect took the van and fled, according to police.
When officers arrived in the 1300 block of Condon Street Tuesday, they found Scott lying on the ground. He was having trouble breathing. Member of the Charlotte Fire Department performed CPR.
Police said that they located the stolen van early Wednesday at a house and that Stradford was arrested inside.
