Police make arrest in sweepstakes parlor attack
Police Monday night arrested a man suspected of choking an employee inside a west
Charlotte sweepstakes parlor.
Roderick Bittle, 28, was being held in the Mecklenburg jail, charged with four counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and three counts of kidnapping.
Police say Bittle was playing games inside Lucky Sweepstakes on Freedom Drive around 3:43 p.m. Sunday when he lost all his money. Witnesses told police that Bittle demanded his money bank and, when a parlor employee refused, he forced everyone inside to the back of the business, indicating that he had a gun.
When the employee again refused, witnesses told police, Bittle attacked the employee, knocking her to the floor and choking her.
Bittle was arrested around 9 p.m. Monday in the 3000 block of Grant Street. According to CMPD, he had been released from prison in December 2009 after serving eight years for sexual assault, breaking and entering and kidnapping. Bittle was released from intensive probation last month.
