Police make arrest in year's first homicide
Police late Monday identified Christopher Julian Radok, 55, as Mecklenburg County's first homicide victim of 2011.
Authorities also announced the arrest of a suspect in the case -- 29-year-old Antoine
Dion Young, who was charged with murder, armed robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle. Mr. Young was being held at the Mecklenburg jail without bail.
Police on Monday found Mr. Radok stabbed to death inside his east Charlotte home in the 2100 block of Purser Drive after someone called 911 to suggest that authorities check on his welfare. Police did not say what evidence tied Mr. Young to the crime.
Police said evidence suggests that Mr. Young broke into Mr. Radok’s home and attacked the victim as he came home from work. Mr. Radok died of a stab wound. Police said they found evidence of a struggle inside the home.
Police late Monday said they still had not found Mr. Radok’s 2001 Jeep Cherokee, N.C. license plate WPH-5769. Anyone who knows the location of the vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.
Police said they believe Mr. Young acted alone. Records show he had been arrested at least five times previously in Mecklenburg County on charges ranging from misdemeanor marijuana possession to larceny, cocaine possession and breaking and entering.
