Police today arrested 28-year-old Deterio Jatavius Brice in connection with the weekend shooting death of Michael Pernell Smith.

Smith, 29, was shot Sunday evening in the 500 block of Camrose Drive, just off The Plaza. He died Monday at Carolinas Medical Center. Police said the shooting may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute.

In addition to murder, Brice was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. According to the Mecklenburg sheriff’s website, Brick has an extensive arrest record, including several weapons charges, drug possession, assault on a female and communicating threats.
