Police: Man abducted, sexually assaulted teens
Police arrested a 50-year-old man Wednesday and charged him with abducting three
teenage girls and sexually assaulting them in a south Charlotte hotel.
Rickey Charles Sanders is accused of coaxing the girls, ages 15, 16 and 17, into his car on North McDowell Street at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said he took the teens to a Hilton Hotel near Tyvola Road, where he threatened them with a box cutter and sexually assaulted one of the girls and attempted to sexually assault another.
The girls escaped and called police. Sanders was arrested a short time later.
Police charged him with attempted first-degree sexual offense, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts of sexual battery and one count of first-degree sexual offense causing serious injury.
Court records show that Sanders has been arrested multiple times and was convicted in 1998 for misdemeanor child abuse. He was also convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in 2001 and discharging a firearm in the city in 2007, according to the Charlotte Observer.
