Police said a man killed his roommate at their northeast Charlotte home early Sunday then barricaded himself inside a shed and took his own life.

Police were called to the house on Donna Drive, off Old Concord Road, just before 1:40 a.m. Sunday to investigate a possible forced entry at the residence. When they arrived, they found Stephanie Ott, 32, dead inside.

Fire crews at the scene discovered that a fire had been set inside the home. Police said an accelerant was used to start the blaze.

As police were scouring the neighborhood looking for suspects or witnesses, they found 52-year-old Robert Stover hiding inside a storage shed at a nearby home. Police said Stover briefly barricaded himself inside the shed then shot himself.

Police said Ott and Stover were roommate. They did not release a possible motive or say how Ott died.

Neighbors told the Charlotte Observer that the couple had been overhead arguing.
