A man fatally shot himself early today after wounding his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

Police did not immediately release the names of the victim or the shooter.

The incident occurred around 12:21 a.m. at the Pines at Wendover apartments on North Wendover Road.

Police were called to a unit regarding a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot in the leg. A male suspect had barricaded himself inside.

A SWAT team responded and police later found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted wound.

WCNC-TV reported that the woman is pregnant and that a child was also inside the apartment during the dispute but wasn't injured. The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
